Winter Weddings

We had the pleasure of playing a few weddings in the barn at Comrie Croft. What a great venue: great food and drink, lovely staff and a nice big dance floor with hay bales all around!

Congratulations to Gill and Cammy, and to Paul and Corinne! We wish all the very best in your future together!

Burns Night at the BBC

The lads performed on the BBC for the Burns Supper this year! Some great recitals of Burns’ poetry, braw singing and some fine haggis!

Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party!

We had such a blast at the Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party on the Royal Mile! Hundreds of dancers – just great fun!

Real Highland Wedding, Crear

Talk about authentic highland weddings, this is it! Anne-Margaret and John Anderson kick off their wedding ceilidh at Crear with a traditional Wedding Reel, a spectacular traditional first dance with the maid of honour and best man.  Great piping too from one of the guests!  We had such a brilliant night! Congratulations again to Mr and Mrs Anderson!

St.Andrew’s Day Celebrations + new video!

What a great day in the Grassmarket in Edinburgh at The St.Andrew’s Day Celebrations! Teaching four-dozen toddlers how to do the Canadian Barn Dance in a wee dome tent in the morning…to playing an Orcadian Strip the Willow to a crowd of over 2000 people at the end of the night!  We also caught up with Scottish folk legend Dougie MacLean (writer of “Caledonia”) backstage!

Check out out new video! Cheers, Hamish, John & Stevie

St.Andrews & St.Andrews

Hey Folks! Great ceilidh on Friday night in Glasgow city centre. John, Stevie and I are honoured to be playing a huge ceilidh at “SAintS” (Saint Andrews in the Square).  This truly stunning venue is surely the ultimate place to play a St.Andrews night!!!! Come on down! — at St Andrews in the Square: Glasgow’s Centre for Scottish Culture.

Promoting Scottish music, song and dance to the widest possible audience, this stunning restored former church is a 300 capacity venue run by St Andrews in the Square Charitable Trust.

Cask Strength to Play World Record Breaking Dance!

Screen Shot 2013-10-30 at 16.33.49The band have the honour of playing for a world-record breaking attempt at the largest Strip the Willow ever attempted! The St.Andrew’s Day street party in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket will be one of the highlights of the years cultural celebrations, featuring acclaimed Scottish singer Dougie MacLean (writer of hit Scottish song ‘Caledonia’). Dougie will be joined by Admiral Fallow frontman Louis Abbot and leading Scottish folk bands Blazin’ Fiddles and Breabach!

The Cask Strength Ceilidh Band will play at a massive kids ceilidh during the day, and will be joined by mighty fiddler Adam Sutherland for the big dance later on! More info here.

Should be quite a spectacle!

However, the Orcadians’ in Kirkwall have surely set us all an impossible task – and I do believe similar attempts have been made on both the wee Isle of Gigha at the mighty music festival there, as well a huge one for Oban’s Bicentenary Celebrations.

Wedding at Achnagairn House

The band were honoured to play at a very special multinational wedding at one of the finest wedding venues in Scotland on Friday. Achnagairn House is an elegant traditional country manor house situated a few miles from Beauly, Inverness-shire.  The band was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the dancers, most of whom were foreign and so completely new to Scottish ceilidhs. The dance floor was full all night!

The Cask Strength four-piece band was requested for the ceilidh, so the band was delighted to be joined again by ace fiddler Adam Sutherland. Both John and Adam hail from nearby Loch Ness-side so it was home to visit the folks’ after the gig.

Congratulations to Liz and Naser on their marriage, and we wish them all the best in their future together. Hamish, John & Stevie
